The robot brain or reptilian brain is responsible for your basic survival. When Crap hits he fan, this one takes the controls until it deems it safe and the immediate threat neutralized. It is responsible for anxiety attacks and any other response that is involuntary. this is the drive to Eat, poop, pee, reproduce. anything that you have no control over, the robot is at the helm. is it your master or servant.
In modern times most execution of these tasks are simple enough, that they are either disregarded or over complicated. Getting out of bed, Hygene, Driving, martial arts, training or occupational tasks that are inharently repetitive that become habits are the domain of the robot brain. It does it’s job effectively and repetitively. no concern for fun or efficiency, it does its job.
The question then lies in, Does it rule your life or does it serve you. are your days lost in the tedium of tasks, or does the robot free you to do other more important tasks? Are people avoiding you and you don’t know why, or the flip side, drawn to you and you don’t know why? Those are all results of the robot brain and even more. when you realize the robot is the powerhouse of your life just as the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell (sorry/not sorry, biology joke).
Now that you are becoming aware, there are two tasks that will help you automate the results of your life. First is the tracking and analysis of your actions, you cannot fix a problem you are not aware of. Every action you do, especially unconscious, write it down. Take a notebook and for a month, write every single action you do from going to the bathroom, to the social event every weekend, to cleaning up your child’s poop off the ceiling (and don’t ask me how it got there. I do not know and neither do they.) And the tipes of conversations with others. Is it about people, actions, or ideas.? Is it praise or reprimand? now list it all down, which are habits and which are not? What do you need to pull from the robot’s programming, and what do you need to add to get where you need to go? Remember the morality of an action and the effectiveness are not considered by the robot, they are just done.
Now you are aware of the habits, now time to program what you need. choose one reprogram you have and do it daily. write down in another notebook when you failed and why. Why didn’t you do what you wanted to do. This is especially important, by noting your failures and the reasons to not acomplish your goals you will see better the motivations, the why for each action. it is then that you can realise or reaffirm why you chose to do what you do.
When you have gotten to a point when your desired actions have become autonomous from your conscious thought, that is when you have handed over to the robot brain. you realize you have gotten up, brushed your teeth, and ate breakfast without a second thought. that is where the goal lies for these exercises. Congratulations have a cookie.
